[META-TREND 10] The Real World's Critique of the Virtual World

[META-TREND 10] The Real World's Critique of the Virtual World

Hello, this is Chris & Partners! 🤗 As companies at home and abroad pursue full-scale metaversification, you can find the metaverse being used in many areas. As every coin has two sides, while some see the metaverse as the pinnacle of digital transformation, concerns and skepticism about indiscriminate digitalization are also emerging. It seems an issue worth considering once: from what perspective should we view and use the metaverse? 🤔 Let's look at the 10th Meta-Trend, full of diverse perspectives!

HOT TOPIC_01: A homeless person appears in the metaverse… ‘An uncomfortable truth met in utopia’

Amid the metaverse craze connecting reality and the virtual world, the metaverse's first homeless person has appeared. Will, the metaverse's first homeless character, points out the unrealistic phenomena happening in the metaverse lately. According to ‘Will,’ in the metaverse many people pour hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars into buying virtual real estate, and someone even bought a virtual yacht—nothing but a digital image—for $650,000 (about ₩790 million). Pointing this out, ‘Will’ says, “Right now in France, over 300,000 homeless people live cut off from society in harsh conditions,” and “Before investing in the virtual world, please think about the real world first. Please help the isolated.” The metaverse homeless person ‘Will’ is a campaign created by ad agency TBWA Paris and the non-profit Entourage. TBWA Paris noted, “While massive investment in the virtual world accelerates and is built rapidly, the social isolation of the homeless is stronger than ever. With ‘Will,’ Entourage raises questions about our society's evolution and social bonds, and urges our attention to care for the most precarious people in the real world.”

HOT TOPIC_02: What if you could talk with the psychologist Freud?

Source: Get me out, Freud

Called the father of psychology and founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud has returned for those struggling in the metaverse. Decentraland's metaverse Freud, a collaboration between the Vienna Tourist Board and ad agency Jung von Matt, is a project started to convey that visiting the real Vienna, not a virtual space, is a healthy approach to wellness. Freud appears at Decentraland's Genesis Plaza Monday to Friday local time, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Among users who chat with Freud, some can win a free trip to Vienna or free admission to the Sigmund Freud Museum. Metaverse Freud can be met until April 29. The Vienna Tourist Board's attempt to use the virtual reality of the metaverse to draw people toward reality is impressive.
