Going beyond a sports brand to take on a role in MZ-generation culture, Nike has taken its first step into the metaverse. 👟 Foreign outlets reported that Nike, in partnership with the metaverse gaming platform Roblox, is building the virtual playground ‘Nikeland.’ In the Nike buildings, sports fields, gyms, and more created within Nikeland, users can convert their own movements—via smartphone and the like—into their avatar's movements and enjoy mini-games together, such as dodgeball, long jump, and the 100-meter dash. A digital showroom where you can dress your avatar in Nike products will also open, they say. Nike plans to continuously update the live experience of global sports and events and strengthen it—updating soccer matches during the World Cup season or the US Super Bowl period, for instance. Nike CFO Matt Friend said, “Digital will increasingly become part of shopping for more and more people,” adding, “Nike expects to be able to achieve its vision of 40% digital business by 2025.”
