The Year-End Highlight: Awards Ceremonies and Corporate Event Planning, A to Z

Hello, this is Chris & Partners.😊 What comes to mind first at year-end? Christmas full of year-end mood, trees, dazzling lights, and the various events and awards ceremonies that crown the year's end. 🏆 From entertainment to many companies, we see year-end events and awards ceremonies held to encourage and commemorate one another for diligently running through the year. Today, let's explore the year-end highlight—awards ceremonies and corporate event planning.

Various kinds of corporate events and awards ceremonies

A corporate event means an event run for a specific purpose inside/outside a company. The level, scale, and cost of planning differ by the event's purpose, type, and scope. There are various events—from small events run by just booking an MC to large-scale ones with props, venue, equipment, and staffing—and they're sometimes run by consulting a corporate-event specialist to fit the event type and budget. The types can be broadly classified as follows. 1. Official events Special events that create a new cause or a major occasion of commemoration and respect for a company—events needing refined, dignified, special planning fitting the situation, scale, and purpose. Common ones include founding ceremonies, vision-declaration ceremonies, conferences, completion ceremonies, groundbreaking ceremonies, inauguration/farewell ceremonies, appointment ceremonies, signboard-hanging ceremonies, opening ceremonies, and more. 2. Awards ceremonies The main reason for holding an awards ceremony is to show gratitude for a particular individual's achievement. So an awards ceremony can foster a culture of motivation and encouragement in a company or specific field and can also be used as an excellent promotional tool. Awards ceremonies can be broadly divided into two kinds. Internal awards are generally held within a school or targeting company employees, with titles like ‘Employee of the Year’ or ‘XX Company's Best Salesperson Award.’ Also, external awards often focus on an entire industry—think of ceremonies like the ‘Grammy Awards’ and ‘Golden Globe Awards.’ 3. Workshops/training Internal events where employees are the subject and audience, aimed at improving company atmosphere through employee harmony and unity—events of an employee-recharge and healing nature or events of an education/training nature, such as leadership and specific-topic discussions and presentations. Sometimes education/training workshops are run together with an enjoyable dinner event. Detailed types include founding events, advance rallies, climbing competitions, business briefings, year-end/new-year parties, closing/opening-work ceremonies, workshops, organizational camps, employee ‘Golden Bell’ quizzes, and more. 4. Promotion events Promotional events to promote products or raise a brand's image, mainly targeting external customers or companies. Among the various marketing fields, since this is an event meeting the audience directly on-site, event expertise—planning expertise fitting the event type, operations staff, production, booths, sound/lighting equipment—is especially important. By purpose, these can be divided into business briefings, new-product launches, signing/agreement ceremonies, press conferences, opening events, auction events, guerrilla events, launch shows, promotion events, and more. 5. Parties/festivals Events held in festival form targeting internal and external people, so a company or organization can solidify its cohesion and build camaraderie; these days, to spread a flexible, creative corporate culture, founding ceremonies and year-end parties are often planned in this party/festival form. Mainly there are business parties, wine parties, outdoor parties, year-end parties, and more.

The role of an event specialist

C&P corporate-event planning/operation examples

1. 2021 ACIIA Audit Committee Forum & Korea National Conference

Held after living with COVID, the hybrid event 2021 ACIIA Audit Committee Forum & Korea National Conference was held November 18–19, 2021, at Maison Glad Jeju under the theme ‘Beyond Change; Leading Through a Crisis.’ As a hybrid event, on-site participants complied with thorough quarantine rules and could mingle with over 300 on-site participants, while overseas speakers and online attendees joined via ZOOM. Chris & Partners prepared in advance, through thorough rehearsals, for problems that could arise from technical issues, minimizing the sense of disconnect from the venue and running the hybrid event in a comfortable atmosphere.

2. 2021 LINA Life 34th Anniversary Online Event

LINA Life's anniversary event, marking 34 years this year, ran contact-free/online due to COVID-19. It was held April 23, 2021, at the DSM Square Art Hall, with the MC and contestants visiting on-site. About 800 LINA Life employees interacted live together via Zoom, running various programs—a pop quiz, a masked-singer-style contest, a lucky draw. The main event, the masked-singer contest, smoothly supported participants' performance through several advance rehearsals of sound, video, and instruments, and on the day staged visuals rivaling a music broadcast, drawing a strong response from viewers.

3. 2020 LG Air Solution Digital Press Conference

The 2020 LG Air Solution Digital Press Conference ran on September 28, 2020, as an online press conference introducing new products to journalists in the MEA region, in step with the COVID era. Chris & Partners built not only the on-site studio but, considering it was an online conference, a stable streaming environment. Also, through a system optimized for online events and advance rehearsals with online cast, it checked the internet environment, and for safe proceedings it thoroughly enforced personal quarantine for staff and cast alike, as well as venue quarantine.

4. 2020 Netmarble A3: Still Alive Media Showcase

Netmarble's much-anticipated 2020 title, the A3: Still Alive showcase, was held January 22, 2020, at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel. Through a site visit with the host, to perfectly express the color and detailed effects hard to render on an ordinary banner, we used new fabrics and inks to produce a banner that could realize A3: Still Alive's dazzling graphics. To cut the media-showcase budget, the host proposed sound speakers, but when on-site setup that day brought dissatisfaction with audio quality, a speaker change was requested, and Chris & Partners, with its system know-how, prepared backup equipment for such problems and could respond quickly. Following the October 2018 ‘Blade & Soul Revolution’ corporate event, this was Chris & Partners' second press-conference corporate event with Netmarble, and by well grasping the host's disposition and traits, we ran the media showcase smoothly.

Today we explored the types and planning process of events and awards ceremonies. To plan a corporate event (and awards ceremony), you must go through several stages, and there are parts needing delicate care within the process. As December approaches, you'll likely see various events around you. If you're warmly wrapping up 2021 and planning a successful event, getting the role and help of a specialist company would be a good way. 🎄
