HOT TOPIC_01: The three mobile carriers: “We'll lay out a money-making metaverse stage”

Recently the metaverse is emerging as a core topic for every industry! A metaverse boom is occurring regardless of field—politics, economy, society, education, culture, and more—and accordingly the three mobile carriers, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, have also jumped in to gain a head start in the metaverse market. First, SK Telecom is one of the companies actively using and supporting the metaverse. This past April it even held a recruitment briefing on its own metaverse platform, ‘Jump Virtual Meetup.’ The recruitment briefing, held for a total of 600 job-seekers, was a venue where job-seekers and SKT staff took part in avatar form to hold various Q&A without constraints of time and space. It also declared plans to grow the surviving corporation after its corporate split into a metaverse company. It also newly reorganized its dedicated organization, changing the name of the business unit that had handled mixed reality to ‘Metaverse CO’ and entering full-scale market-securing, it's said. KT is building a ‘Metaverse One Team’ to attack the metaverse market, and plans to seek technology development and service-expansion measures through continuous, regular exchange. LG Uplus developed wearable devices (electronic devices attached to or worn on the body) essential to the metaverse. It is also pouring effort into building metaverse content, serving as the chair company of the ‘XR Alliance,’ a global corporate alliance.

HOT TOPIC_02: The government feels the metaverse wind too... senior and junior disabled public servants met as avatars

A metaverse wind is blowing in the government too. The Ministry of Personnel Management decided, as a central-government first, to use the metaverse for new public servants' counseling and training; in particular, for severely disabled public servants who can't move easily, it held a ‘Severely Disabled Public Servants Online Counseling Get-Together and Launch Ceremony.’ About 25 public servants from 8 ministries took part, run in 6 teams with senior and junior public servants paired up. Participants gave positive feedback, saying, ‘It was a useful time where we could hear seniors' experience and tips without constraints of time and space and exchange with juniors, and we'd love continuous meetings in this way.’ ​
